Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas outscored Henderson State 10-0 in overtime to secure an 82-72 win in Great American Conference action Saturday at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.
The Muleriders (5-3, 2-2 GAC) won their second consecutive league game, while the
Reddies (6-2, 2-2 GAC) dropped their second straight after starting the season 6-0.
SAU let a 17-point second half lead slip away from them as HSU rallied from a 64-47 deficit at 10:19 with a 25-8 scoring run to end regulation knotted at 72-72 when Melvin Haynes drained a three-pointer with six seconds left. But it was all Southern Arkansas in overtime as Henderson State missed all six shots it attempted and suffered four turnovers.
The Muleriders jumped all over the Reddies from the outset of the game, quickly building a 17-6 lead at 15:14 in the first half on a lay-up from senior guard
Rodney Hill (Shreveport, La.). HSU pulled back to within 17-13 at 13:09 on a lay-up from Andrew Ensley, but SAU eventually pushed it to a 17-point game of 42-25 at 2:25 before settling for a 44-33 lead at halftime.

Chris Davis' (North Little Rock) jumper at 4:44 ignited Southern Arkansas' 10-0 run in overtime. Junior guard
Jamail Turner (Swainsboro, Ga.) followed with a three-pointer, junior forwards
Nigel Jones (Wadley, Ala.) and
Duke Reed (Houston, Texas) each added lay-ups, and Davis ended the scoring hitting 1 of 2 free throws with 25 ticks left on the clock.
Davis led the Muleriders with a season-high 19 points and also pulled down nine rebounds. Hill scored 15 points and dished out six assists. Junior guard
Darrin Johnson (Chicago, Ill.) finished with 13 points, and Jones recorded his third consecutive double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Denzel Lyles paced Henderson State with 22 points, Ensley scored 21 and had six rebounds, and Haynes finished with 16 points.
SAU got off 20 more field goal attempts in the game than the Reddies did, shooting 46.1 percent on 35 of 76 from the floor. HSU hit 42.9 percent on 24 of 56, but stayed in it by canning 17 of 23 free throws to Southern Arkansas' 7 of 13.
The Muleriders dominated the glass, holding a 51-28 rebound advantage, outscoring Henderson State 46-28 inside and getting a 20-1 differential on second-chance points.
SAU gets a long break over finals week before hosting Texas A&M-Commerce in non-conference play December 19 in a 7 p.m. tip-off. The Lions won a 74-67 decision in the teams' first meeting November 26 in Commerce, Texas.
