MAGNOLIA, Ark. – On Thursday, February 11, Southern Arkansas University redshirt freshman quarterback
Barrett Renner is to be honored by the Little Rock Touchdown Club at their annual awards banquet as SAU's MVP for the 2015 season.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Little Rock Embassy Suites Hotel Ballroom at 7:00 p.m.
Renner, a native of Rowlett, Texas, has garnered numerous accolades in response to his stellar first season under center for the Muleriders. An all-region selection by the Don Hansen Football Committee, Renner was also tabbed as an All-GAC First-Team Quarterback as well as being voted by the head football coaches of the GAC as the league's Freshman of the Year. Additionally, Renner was a Super Region Three nominee for the prestigious Harlon Hill Award, which is ultimately given to the NCAA Division II Player of the Year.
Over the course of his redshirt freshman campaign, Renner burst on to the scene as he started all 11 games this season for the Muleriders. In his short time under center, Renner established himself as one of the best signal-callers not only in the GAC and region, but also nationally as he ended the season ranked in the top-15 in all of NCAA Division II in six major offensive categories including Passing Touchdowns (7th | 33), Total Offense (9th | 337.5 ypg) and Passing Yards (14th | 3,333).
Additionally, by season's end Renner had five single-season records at SAU. Among those new SAU single-season marks were Passing TDs (33), Pass Completions (252), Pass Attempts (405), Pass Completion Percentage (62.6), and Total Offense (3,713).
Renner also ended the season leading all NCAA Division II freshmen quarterbacks in yards, touchdowns and passing efficiency. Earlier in the season, he became the first freshman in Division II to reach the 3,000-yard milestone since 2012.
