Muleriders Drop Two to Savage Storm

MAGNOLIA, Ark.   – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (22-20, 15-14 GAC) fell in their Sunday doubleheader against the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Savage Storm (26-17, 17-12 GAC). SAU lost 6-0 in game one and 8-1 in game two.

Game 1 | SE wins 6-0
Stetson Bishop toed the rubber in the first game of today's doubleheader and gave early momentum to the Muleriders sitting the Savage storm down in order all three via the strike out. SAU came to the plate and followed suit going down in order in the bottom of the inning. Both teams struggled at the plate through the first inning as the game was a pitcher's duel. For the Muleriders, Bishop faced the minimum through three innings on the bump collecting six strikeouts in three innings. The Muleriders struggled at the plate as both teams' pitchers were on fire early and the game entered the fourth inning scoreless. Despite some traffic on the base paths for the Savage Storm in the top of the fourth, Bishop worked around it holding Southeastern scoreless. The top of the fifth and sixth innings saw Bishop continue to dominate the Savage Storm hitters going three up and three down in each half inning. SAU continued to have chances at the plate but could not push anything across as the teams entered the top of the seventh inning scoreless. In the top of the seventh inning, the Savage Storm finally broke the ice in a big way scoring six runs to take a 6-0 lead. Despite traffic on the bases for the Muleriders in the bottom of the frame, the Muleriders were again held scoreless. Solid pitching from both sides held the score right where it was through the eighth and ninth innings as the Savage Storm took home a game one win.

The struggles at the plate continued for the Muleriders through five innings as they were held scoreless while SE extended their lead with four runs in the top of the fourth and one run in the top of the fifth putting them up 8-0 after five complete. The Muleriders were able to scratch a run across in the bottom of the sixth inning as Michael Herndon recorded an RBI sacrifice fly to left field scoring Jordan Owns, 8-1.
