Muleriders Set for Round Two with Statesmen

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (18-10, 13-5 GAC) are set for their midweek meeting against the Delta State University Statesmen (15-12, 10-8 GSC) on Tuesday, March 24th. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.

>>> The Muleriders enter the midweek with momentum after claiming their fifth conference series win of the year and sixth series win overall. The Muleriders bounced back after falling in game one of the series against Southwestern Oklahoma State to win the next two and clinch the series win over the Bulldogs.
 
>>> The Muleriders will meet the Statesmen for the second time this year in midweek play. In the first meeting, the Blue and Gold traveled to Cleveland, Mississippi and took the game by a final of 8-3 behind nine total hits. Two Muleriders homered in the game including Preston Smith and Wyatt Fielding. Fielding led the team in RBI in the game with four. Eight of nine Muleriders recorded a hit in the meeting with Christian Gutierrez recording two. Eli Hutcherson also had a great game in the outing pitching seven complete innings while not allowing any runs and striking out six hitters.
 
>>> Wyatt Fielding still leads the team with his .396 batting average and 26 RBI. He also leads in total bases (72), slugging percentage (.713), OPS (1.217), doubles (10), and on base percentage (.504). Preston Smith recorded his sixth triple of the season against SWOSU to lead the team, GAC and still tied for first in the nation.
 
>>> Nate June leads the team in qualifying ERA with a mark of 4.26. Eli Hutcherson leads the team in innings pitched with 43.2 and strikeouts with 42.
 
DSU Notables
>>> The Statesmen come off a weekend series loss to the 13th ranked West Alabama Tigers. DSU took game one of the series but fell in their final two matchups of the weekend being outscored 21-10. In midweeks this season, the Statesmen are 3-3 overall.
 
>>> During their last meeting with the Muleriders, the Statemen were held scoreless until they hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to avoid the shut out.
 
>>> Austin Estes leads the offense for DSU with a .372 batting average and .902 OPS. Tucker Jones leads the team in home runs with five and in slugging percentage (.509).
 
>>> Adrian Byrd leads the pitching staff with his 2.85 qualifying ERA while also being the clubhouse leader in strikeouts with 46.
