SAU to open home play with midweek doubleheader against Christian Brothers

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Dawson Field inside the Margaret Downing Softball Complex is set to reopen, as Mulerider Softball (15-2) will begin home action with a midweek doubleheader against the Christian Brothers Buccaneers (3-8).

This weekend's contests will be broadcast live on the Southern Arkansas University Hudl Fan Page with Mark Trout calling all the action.

>>> The Muleriders come off winning their first Great American Conference (GAC) series this season, as Southern Arkansas went to Bethany, Oklahoma, and defeated the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm two games to one (8-0/6 | 4-9 | 10-1/5). The Blue and Gold will have their first outing against CBU in over a decade, as the two have not met since April of 2015.
 
>>> Leading the Muleriders in batting average is currently Maddie Leal, as the local out of Houston, Texas is recording a .522 batting average. Leal has gone 24-for-46 at the plate with five doubles and one triple. Leal also leads the Great American Conference in drawn walks with 18, which also ties for first in the nation. She is also the GAC's leader in runs scored with 21.
 
>>> Atop the statistical boards for stolen bases, Sophia Luetticke leads the way with nine stolen bases, currently going 9-for-10 on stolen base attempts. Coming into steal bases, via pinch running, has been Leigha Gilbert. The freshman has been stellar in stealing bases, going 6-for-6 so far this season.
 
>>> With at least 20 innings pitched this season, Emma Duncan currently leads the Muleriders' pitching staff in ERA, as the Canadian sits at a 2.26 average in 49.2 innings pitched. The grad has also allowed just an opposing batting average of .189. Duncan's 47 strikeouts lead the unit, as she is also second in the conference and 17th in the nation.
 
CBU Notables
>>> Christian Brothers is currently on a four-game losing streak, as the group started its Gulf South Conference schedule 0-3, losing all three games to West Florida (0-4 | 2-10 | 1-3). Starting the season 3-8, the Buccaneers three wins come against Henderson State (11-2), Miles College (13-3), Southwest Baptist (3-2).
 
>>> Marin Beeson leads the Buccaneers' batters, as the junior is accounting for a .409 batting average. She also leads the group in hits (9-for-22), total bases (13), slugging (.591), and on-base percentage (.435).
 
>>> Leading in the circle for Christian Brothers has been Emily Schooler. The senior has recorded the best ERA of the staff this season, producing a 2.02 average in 34.2 innings pitched. Schooler leads the staff in strikeouts, accounting for 25 this campaign.
