Muleriders Set to Open Conference Play on the Road

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University baseball team (3-4, 0-0 GAC) will open Great American Conference play on the road this weekend in Shawnee, Oklahoma for a three-game series against Oklahoma Baptist University (2-3, 0-0 GAC). The three-game series is scheduled to start on Sunday, February 15th with a double header starting at 2:00 p.m. followed by a single game on Monday, February 16th at 12:00 p.m.

This weekend's series will be broadcast on the Bison Sports Network.

>>> The Muleriders are currently riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Maryville University in the final two games of their weekend series to clinch a series win followed by a midweek win over Delta State University in their first road action of the season by a final of 8-3.
 
>>> The bats have come alive for the SAU offense the past three games hitting four home runs over the past three games including two against Delta State. The Muleriders offense is averaging just over one home run a game as they have hit a home run in every game so far this season. The Muleriders are averaging 8.3 runs a game over the last three games.
 
>>> Eli Hutcherson had a standout performance against the Statesmen throwing seven complete innings striking out six hitters while allowing no runs on four hits and two walks. Stetson Bishop also appeared in relief against DSU throwing one inning allowing one hit and no runs with two walks. The only runs of the game for the Statesmen were allowed by Jackson Downing in his one inning of work.
 
>>> The Muleriders are currently tied for first in the conference in team fielding percentage sitting at .974 on the season.
 
>>> Wyatt Fielding is tied for second in the conference in home runs with three. While also ranking sixth in the conference in doubles with three
 
>>> Fielding leads the team in batting average with a mark of .435 while also leading in hits (10), doubles (3), and is tied for the team lead in home runs (3).
 
>>> Wes Cunningham leads the team in ERA with a mark of 3.52 with 7.2 innings pitched. Eli Hutcherson leads the team in strikeouts with 11.
 
OKBU Notables
>>> The Bison currently sit at 2-3 overall and 0-0 in conference play. After The Dugan Invitational was cancelled, the Bison hosted Missouri Southern followed by a game at UCO and then hosting the University of Missouri Saint Louis for two games and a midweek against UAFS. This week's games will be the first GAC series for the Bison.
 
>>> Quinn Johnson leads the Bison offense at the plate batting .444 and has totaled eight hits, five RBI, and two doubles while slugging .556, and working three walks and two hit by pitches. The offense has six players with a batting average of .300 or above.
 
>>> Landon Gutierrez and Logan Wade both currently have a 0.00 ERA with eight and five innings pitched respectively. The reigning GAC pitcher of the week, Kody Bialas leads the staff in innings with11.1 and strikeouts with 16 and boasts a 2.38 ERA.
