DURANT, Okla. — Mulerider Volleyball started the stretch against the Great American Conference's programs in Oklahoma, as Southern Arkansas took on the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm in the Sooner State. The Blue and Gold were defeated on the road to begin Oklahoma play, falling to the Savage Storm 3-0.
Southern Arkansas was led by their lone double-digit scorer in Brinklee Dauenhauer, as the senior accounted for 10 kills in the game and recorded 19 digs. With her team-leading 10 kills and 19 digs, Dauenhauer tallied her seventh double-double of the campaign.
For attack percentage, Jessica Porten led the group with a .333 percentage after scoring seven kills on 15 attacks with two errors.
The Muleriders' offense went through two setters, with Kate Schofield leading the group with her 19 assists.
Set One (L, 25-17)
Early and often, the Savage Storm had a strong grasp on the match against their first Natural State opponent in GAC play, as SAU went down 10-3 in the opening round. After some points back and forth, Southern Arkansas was down 12-6, but SEOSU followed SAU's 3-2 stretch with a 6-0 run to go up 18-6. While the Muleriders attempted to claw back into the set, Southeastern Oklahoma State claimed the set with an eight-point lead.
Set Two (L, 25-23)
While the opening set did not the Muleriders way in many ways, Southern Arkansas looked to counter Southeastern Oklahoma State's first set, as the Muleriders went up 6-3, but SEOSU followed that up with a 9-3 stretch, going up 12-9. The Blue and Gold tied the match back up at 18-18, but was followed by a 4-0 stretch by SEOSU, 22-18, before SAU scored five points to two, 24-23. Despite the late set surge by SAU, SEOSU tacked on one more kill to secure the second set.
Set Three (L, 25-16)
Similar to the beginning of the first set, Southeastern Oklahoma State went up 10-4, but was followed by a 4-0 run by the Muleriders to close the gap to two points, 10-8. Southern Arkansas managed to cut the deficit to one point, 12-11, but the Savage Storm managed to score six more points to SAU's one, 18-12. The Blue and Gold scored a couple more points before SEOSU accounted for seven points to the Muleriders' last two to finish the match.
