Muleriders Hit the Road to Arkadelphia

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The (RV) Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (29-16, 21-9) hit the road to Arkadelphia, Arkansas for a midweek showdown against the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers (21-22, 18-22).
 
Series History
Tuesday's meeting will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season, which saw the Muleriders sweep the Tigers in Magnolia. The Muleriders hold a 91-19 lead over the Tigers in the all-time series history and will look to improve upon that record today.
 
A Look at SAU
The Muleriders had a highly successful week last week, going 3-1 in four outings. The week started with a 6-5 win over the Mississippi College Choctaws and was then followed by a dominant 16-0 win over the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm in Durant, Oklahoma in game one of the series. The lone loss of the week came against the Savage Storm in game two of the series by a score of 7-8, which was then followed by the Muleriders clinching the series in the rubber match by a score of 9-7.
 
Trace Shoup currently leads the Muleriders offense with his .370 batting average and 40 runs scored. Shoup also leads the team in slugging percentage (.675), total bases (104), on-base percentage (.434), and OPS (1.109). After his spectacular weekend at the plate, Brandon Nicoll now holds the all-time record for SAU and the GAC in career RBIs with a mark of 237. Nicoll set this mark in the final game of the series against the Savage Storm thanks to his fifth home run of the series. Nicoll had a home run in each game of the weekend series, with three coming in game one and one in the second and third games. Nicoll leads the Muleriders' offense with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs.
 
After a great weekend on the mound for the Muleriders, Jeremy Adorno is now only two strikeouts away from 450 career strikeouts with a current total of 448. Adorno is the all-time leader in games started (60) and innings pitched (389.2). Jeremy is also tied for second in career shutouts (6), wins (33), Jeremy is sixth all-time in appearances (60) and sixth in complete games (14). Adorno currently leads the pitching staff with a 3.48 qualifying ERA and has two complete games which leads the staff. Adorno is the leader in innings pitched (77.2), strikeouts (89), shutouts (2), WHIP (1.31), and opponent batting average against (.226).
 
A Look at OUA
The Tigers are coming off a big weekend series sweep against the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers, which kept the Tigers four games ahead of the Rangers in the standings and kept them in the hunt for a higher seed heading into the last weekend of conference play. Although the Tigers have clinched a spot in the GAC tournament, they will be locked in a showdown with the Henderson State Reddies this weekend for a seeding battle, as Henderson and Ouachita are separated by just one game in the conference standings.
 
Isaac Nowell currently leads the Tigers offense with his .358 batting average, 58 hits, 97 total bases, four triples, 10 doubles, and 1.036 OPS. Nowell is also tied with Garrett Graham for the team lead in home runs, as each player has seven on the year. Wesley Scott currently leads the team in stolen bases with 23 in 26 attempts.
 
Chase Oberle leads the pitching staff for Ouachita with a 3.36 qualifying ERA and 80.1 innings pitched. Oberle has fanned a team-high 81 hitters this season and has a 1.24 WHIP while opponents are hitting .259 against him.
