MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (27-15, 19-8) head to the Sooner State for the final time this regular season for a three-game series against the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm (16-26, 12-15). Due to weather in the area this weekend, the series was originally scheduled for Friday-Saturday and has now been moved up and will now begin on Thursday with a single game followed by a doubleheader on Friday.
Series History
The Muleriders currently hold a 50-26 overall record against the Savage Storm and have won each of their last five meetings. The first meeting between the teams came on March 21st, 1991, an 8-10 loss for the Blue and Gold. The most recent meeting came on February 18th, 2024, a 3-2 win for the Muleriders. The Muleriders also currently boast a 25-15 record in Durant and will need to improve on that this weekend in order to maintain their position atop the conference standings.
A Look at SAU
The Muleriders come into this weekend's series needing some big wins as they look to hold their place atop the GAC standings with only two conference series to play, which includes this weekend. The Muleriders come into the weekend with a one game lead in the conference standings as they sit at 19-8 in the league but are only one game ahead of Harding, who boasts an 18-9 record in conference play.
The Muleriders come into the weekend with some momentum off a big non-conference midweek win over the Mississippi College Choctaws.
Jayden Hill yet again played a huge role in the win for the Muleriders as he collected three RBIs in one swing of the bat to vault the Blue and Gold over the Choctaws and provide some much-needed momentum in what seemed to be a rubber match. The Muleriders' bullpen also showed off their depth as nine different pitchers appeared, and
Austin Adair collected his sixth save of the season as he came on to close out the game.
Trace Shoup leads the offense with his .366 batting average and is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 35. Shoup is also tied for the team lead in home runs with eight.
Lee Matsuzaki is another big offensive weapon for the Muleriders, leading the offense in hits (59) and doubles (15). Game one starter
Jeremy Adorno currently leads the team in innings pitched (70.2), and strikeouts (82).
Austin Adair leads the staff with a 2.34 ERA and a 7-1 record, along with six saves on the season. Adair has been the main closer for the Muleriders with 42.1 innings pitched.
A Look at SEOSU
The Savage Storm comes into the weekend as the losers of two straight. The Savage Storm took game one from UAM this past weekend but lost games two and three as the winning team both times managed to score double-digit runs. In the last two games of the series with UAM, the Savage Storm were outscored 34-12.
SEOSU currently sits tied for eighth place in the conference standings with a 12-15 record in conference play and need some big wins down the stretch in order to secure their spot in the tournament.
Mitchell Wesley currently leads the offense with a .384 batting average and 56 hits. Wesley also leads in home runs (16), RBIs (46), total bases (117), slugging percentage (.801), OPS (1.234), and doubles (13). Chase Keeton is another offensive weapon for the Savage Storm with 11 home runs this season. Daniel Collins is the only qualifying pitcher that meets the minimum of one inning pitched per game. Collins has a 5.17 ERA with 47 innings pitched, 43 strikeouts, and has allowed 37 runs.
