Muleriders Host Choctaws for Midweek Contest

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The (RV) Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (26-15, 19-8) are set to host the Mississippi College Choctaws (26-16, 17-10) for a midweek showdown inside of Walker Stadium.
 
Series History
The Muleriders currently lead the all-time series against the Choctaws with a 12-3 record. The Blue and Gold won the first meeting of the season in Clinton, Mississippi by a final score of 12-8. With their win earlier this season, the Muleriders extended their win streak to three games over the Choctaws.
 
A Look at SAU
The Muleriders head into the midweek after a 2-2 week that saw a 9-3 loss against No. 7 ranked UT-Tyler and two wins against the East Central University Tigers. The series win for the Muleriders marked their seventh series win this season. Despite the Tigers taking game two of the series, the Blue and Gold found a way to gut out a game three win to keep their place on top of the GAC standings. With their two wins this weekend and two losses from Oklahoma Baptist, the Muleriders are also the first team to have cemented their place in the Great American Conference Tournament clinching a spot in Enid, Oklahoma.
 
Trace Shoup currently leads the Muleriders offense after an impressive weekend at the plate. Shoup currently has a .362 batting average and is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 35 and an OPS of 1.056. Shoup is also tied for the team lead in home runs with eight. Lee Matsuzaki leads the offense with his 15 doubles, 57 hits, 88 total bases, and 39 RBIs. Lee was also a key part in the first game this weekend hitting a three-run homerun to vault the Muleriders over the Tigers.
 
Austin Adair had a good weekend on the mound for the Muleriders collecting his seventh win of the season and fifth save. Adair has thrown 41.2 innings thus far while fanning 34 batters and currently boasts the best record on the staff at 7-1. Jeremy Adorno also had a great weekend on the mound in game one of the series. Adorno threw six scoreless innings before giving up two runs in the top of the seventh. Adorno threw 7.2 innings allowing six hits, and three runs while fanning a season high 12 hitters.
 
A Look at MC
The Choctaws currently have a 26-16 record overall coming into the matchup and are also coming off of a 2-2 week which saw a midweek 15-3 loss to Henderson State and a loss against the University of Alabama at Huntsville in the weekend GSC series. The Choctaws are currently 3-4 against GAC opponents coming into the game.
 
Korey Cooper leads the MC offense with his .368 batting average and 1.112 OPS. Bryce LaRocca also comes in with a .349 batting average and leads the team in hits (59), total bases (110), home runs (12), doubles (13), and RBIs (50). The Choctaws offense has proven to be able to hit the long ball this season as three players have recorded double digit home run totals while the rest of the main starters have each recorded at least two home runs. As a team, the Choctaws have hit 51 home runs through 42 games.
 
Caleb Peterson leads the pitching staff with his 4.69 ERA. Holland Townes is also a key part of the pitching staff for MC throwing a staff best 61 innings pitched while fanning a staff best 70 batters and leading the team in games started (12).
