MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders return home this weekend for more GAC action after spending the last two weeks on the road to square off against the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers.
Series History
The Muleriders have dominated the all-time series against the Tigers, holding an 88-19 record over Ouachita. The first meeting between the two teams came on March 23rd, 1991, a 9-4 SAU win. The most recent meeting came on March 30th, 2024, a 6-3 win in 10 innings to secure the series sweep in Arkadelphia for SAU.
A Look at SAU
The Muleriders are coming off of a 2-2 week last week which saw a 12-8 win in Clinton, Mississippi over Mississippi College and then dropping the series 2-1 to Arkansas Tech in Russellville. The Mulerider's offense continued their power hitting ways against Mississippi College as both
Jaden Woolbright and
Brandon Nicoll hit homeruns to power SAU over Mississippi College. The Blue and Gold then fell in the series opener to the Wonder Boys despite a home run from
Trace Shoup by a final score of 3-2. The Muleriders then bounced back in game two of the series behind
Trace Shoup's second homerun of the series and 17 total hits to win by a final score of 9-5. SAU then fell in game three by a final score of 6-3.
After 18 games this season,
Jaden Woolbright leads the team in batting average with a mark of .348.
Lee Matsuzaki follows closely behind with his .346 batting average but leads the team in RBIs (17), hits (27), doubles (9), slugging percentage (.603), and OPS (1.005).
Jayden Hill is the team leader in homeruns with five on the season. The Muleriders' power has really shown lately as they have blasted 25 home runs so far this season and had a six-game homerun streak snapped in game three against the Wonder Boys.
Austin Adair leads the pitching staff with a 4-0 record and 1.13 ERA.
Jeremy Adorno leads the staff in strikeouts with 33.
A Look at Ouachita
The Tigers currently have a 9-9 overall record and are 6-3 thus far in conference play. Ouachita recently fell in their series with Harding two games to one after picking up a loss in both the first and second game before bounding back to win game three. The Tigers then traveled to Russellville, Arkansas for a midweek matchup and fell to the Wonder Boys by a final score of 8-5.
Wesley Scott currently leads the Tigers' offense with his .274 batting average and 17 hits. Scott also leads the team in RBIs (14), total bases (32), walks (13), and doubles (6). Tag Pacot currently leads the pitching staff with a 3-1 record and 3.44 ERA collecting 26 strikeouts on the year.
