Team 27 Handles Bulldogs On The Road

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Mulerider Softball made the long journey to take on the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs at the SWOSU Softball Field for the Great American Conference series opener and doubleheader between the two programs. Southern Arkansas stepped onto the SWOSU Softball Field and dominated the day as the Muleriders won both contests of the series doubleheader by a combined final of 21-1 and did not allow a run until the final inning of the day. With the wins, SAU recorded its 14th and 15th win in a row.

The Muleriders seemingly had a home run derby today in Weatherford as the Blue and Gold accounted for six home runs with a couple of Muleriders accounting for multiple.

Game One (W, 6-0)
In the circle for the Muleriders in game one was Brinson Rogers. The Statesboro, Georgia native accounted for 13 fanned batters, and just one walk and hit allowed. While she surrendered the walk early in the first inning, Rogers held a no-hitter through 6.2 innings as the senior surrendered her first and only hit with just one out remaining in the contest.

Southern Arkansas started the scoring early in this outing as Regan Dillon quite literally started the game with a bang as the junior blasted a ball over the center field wall for the lead-off home run, 1-0.

The Muleriders would be shut down in the remainder of the inning but would come right back in the second and add to their lead with a single to center field by Cassidy Lear to score Kelsie Adams from second, 2-0.

After a three-up and three-down inning by Rogers, Southern Arkansas lit up the scoreboard with some more crooked numbers after the first two batters in the order went down both by flyout. Right after this, Savannah Clausen singles to left field, Adams singles to the pitcher (advances Clausen to second), Sophia Stoddard singles to right field (advances Adams to second, scored Clausen), Jenna Huey singled and advances to second on the throw (Stoddard advances to third, scored Adams), and then finally Payton Owens singled and scored Stoddard before Huey was thrown out at third.

The remaining score for the Blue and Gold was Clausen's first home run of the day with an opposite field shot over the right field wall for the final 6-0 score.

Game Two (W, 15-1/5 inn.)
Kassie Rhodes got the start in game two and earned her fourth victory of the season as the Quitman, Arkansas native saw plenty of aid from the field with eight flyouts and four groundouts in Rhodes' 4.0 innings of work. Haylee Monden made her first appearance in the circle as a Mulerider as she came in for the relief of Rhodes to start the fifth.

While many Muleriders stood out in the second outing with four different players recording multiple hits in the game, Jocelyn Ulrich and Kelsie Adams produced some stellar games as both recorded three hits and went yard. Adams accounted for a pair of home runs in the contest with her first going down as a grand slam in the second inning to score Ulrich, Rubio, and Clausen. Adams' final home run of the game was also the Muleriders' final run plated with the insurance run coming in the top of the fifth.

Only one other Mulerider accounted for a home run, and that was Savannah Clausen for her second of the day in the top of the fifth prior to Adams.

Southern Arkansas held the shutout nearly till the end as SWOSU's Kaylee Barkley accounted for a sacrifice fly to score her teammate Emily Wedel who pinch-ran for Kylie Morton.
