MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (15-11, 9-6) are set for their sixth conference series of the season as they return home to Magnolia, Arkansas to play the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Bulldogs (16-8, 7-7).
Series History
The Muleriders currently lead the overall series over the Bulldogs with a 26-14 record all-time. The first meeting between the two teams came on March 10th, 2012, a 4-2 Muleriders win. The most recent meeting between the two teams came on April 13th, 2024, a 16-9 loss for SAU. Prior to losing the three-game series to SWOSU last season, the Muleriders were on a six-game winning streak over SWOSU.
A Look at SAU
The Blue and Gold come into the weekend looking for a much-needed series win as they attempt to bounce back after a midweek non-conference loss to Henderson State by a final score of 15-10. The Muleriders seemed to be in control of the game holding a 10-5 lead heading into the seventh inning until the Reddies struck for nine runs in the top of the seventh. While the Reddies' offense got scorching hot the Muleriders' offense would go cold as they faced a couple of bases-loaded situations in the late-inning but could not convert and mount the comeback.
Despite the loss, a couple of Muleriders had productive days at the plate as
Jaden Woolbright and
Carter Claerhout each finished the game with three RBIs.
Peyton Ballard also went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring two runs and one RBI.
Jayden Hill and
Trace Shoup also finished the game scoring two runs each. The Muleriders collected 11 hits in the game while scoring 10 runs.
Lee Matsuzaki currently leads the offense with his .361 batting average and 39 hits on the year. Lee collected his 11th double of the season against the Reddies and leads the team with 26 RBIs.
Trace Shoup is also having a good season at the plate for the Blue and Gold boasting a .354 batting average, with 29 total hits and a team-leading six home runs.
Austin Adair leads the pitching staff with a 3.14 ERA and a 6-1 record. Adair picked up his first loss of the season against the Reddies.
Jeremy Adorno is the clubhouse leader in innings pitched (43.1), strikeouts (49), batting average against (.196), and shutouts (1).
A Look at SWOSU
The Bulldogs are coming off a successful 2-1 series win against UAM last weekend followed by a big seven-inning 20-10 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday. SWOSU currently holds a 16-8 overall record and is 7-7 in GAC play as they currently sit in ninth place in the GAC standings. The Bulldogs are also streaking right now as they are winners of their last three games winning the final two of the series against UAM and run-ruling Oklahoma Baptist in the midweek.
Bodi Wallar currently leads the Bulldogs offense with his .365 batting average. Gage Gaunt and Ty Eastwood also provide offensive firepower for the Bulldogs boasting a .350 and .333 average, respectively. Eastwood also leads the team in hits with 31 while Gaunt leads the team in RBIs with 26. Wallar and Gaunt are also tied for the team lead in home runs with four each.
