MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Mulerider Men's golf team is ready to tee off the spring season at the Houston Classic, hosted by Southern Nazarene University. The two-day tournament will take place at the prestigious Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. The tournament will feature a competitive field, with Southern Arkansas set to take on a mix of teams including conference rivals and regional opponents, providing an early test for the team as they begin their spring season.
Southern Arkansas' lineup for the event features a strong group of competitors: Logan McDonald, Luke Cote, Blane Burk, Collin Spangler, and Wil Griffin II. The squad looks to build momentum early in the spring season and set the tone for upcoming tournaments.
The 2024 fall season was highlighted by two impressive runner-up finishes for the Muleriders. The team secured 2nd place at the Holiday Inn Express MWSU Men's Central Region Preview, hosted by Missouri Western, as well as at Henderson State's Battle for the Belt, where they posted a total score of 863 (-1).
Individually, McDonald shined at the Central Region Preview, finishing third overall after shooting under par in all three rounds, closing with an impressive seven-under (206). Freshman Burk also made his mark, tying for 10th place in a competitive 104-golfer field with a 212 (-1) total. At the Battle for the Belt, Alex Gerrard delivered a standout performance, tying for sixth place with a three-under (213) total.
Southern Arkansas is set to begin its spring season at the Golf Club of Houston, with the first tee time scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Monday (Feb. 10).
