Chambers' impressive performance propels SAU to road triumph

ADA, Okla. — Win number eleven is secured and a the light at the end of the Great American Conference Tournament entry tunnel is a little bit brighter as Darrick Matthew Muleriders (11-10 | 6-9) defeat the East Central Tigers (7-12 | 5-10) and break a tie in the eighth-place spot. The Muleriders defeated ECU with a final of 56-52 and have taken the outright spot of seventh in the GAC standings. 

The contest ran tight the entirety of the night as neither team could claim victory up until the very end. All besides the first period, the Muleriders led from periods two through four.

Southern Arkansas claimed victory after strong defensive play throughout the entire contest as Elena Lijo-Rodriguez accounted for a new career-high in blocks for a game with six blocks agains the Tigers. 

Leading the team in scoring and nearly setting a new season record for team in scoring was Tequila Chambers as the Plain Dealing, Louisiana native scored nearly half of the team's points on the night with 27. Qua accounted for a shooting percentage of 43.4% as she made 10-23 from the floor and was 3-7 from beyond the arc. Also, Chambers led the team in free throws, shooting 4-5 from the charity stripe. The senior's 27-point night marked the fourth game this campaign that Chambers has accounted for 20+ in a game and third in the last four games. 

Southern Arkansas has another opportunity to boost its stock on Saturday as the group looks to avenge a January loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State at 1:00 PM in Durant, Oklahoma.
