Muleriders Continue Road Stretch in Russellville

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (9-6, 4-2) cap off their seven-game road stretch this weekend with a trip to Russellville, Arkansas for a three-game series against the Arkansas Tech University Wonder Boys (5-8, 4-1). The series marks the final three games of a seven-game road stint that will see the team play seven games in seven days.

Series History
The Muleriders currently hold a 68-44 record over the Wonder Boys. Despite holding the overall series lead, SAU has lost the last five games against ATU including a 10 inning, 4-3 loss at the GAC tournament last season. The Muleriders also hold a 30-20 series lead in Russellville and will look to snap the five-game losing skid to the Wonder Boys this weekend.

A Look at SAU
The Muleriders are coming off of a stretch of four games in three days after weather forced the series against SNU to be moved to Sunday Monday which was then followed by a midweek game in Clinton, Mississippi against Mississippi College. The Blue and Gold picked up their second conference series win of the season in Bethany behind an offensive explosion that saw SAU score 42 runs and collect 50 hits while launching a combined 11 home runs through three games. The Muleriders then continued their offensive hot streak against the Choctaws, belting two more home runs and racking up another 17 hits and 12 runs scored to defeat the Choctaws.

Jayden Hill received GAC Player of the Week and NCBWA Central Region Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Crimson Storm. Hill finished the three-game series going 7-for-12 (.583 average) at the plate while belting four total home runs with nine RBIs, eight runs scored, and working three walks while only striking out twice. Hill compiled a .706 on-base percentage and slugged 1.583. Hill hit two home runs in both the first and second games to light the Muleriders offense ablaze and contribute to their 21-6 win in the first game while also tying the second game in the top of the seventh inning with a mammoth home run to right field.

After his impressive weekend at the plate, Brandon Nicoll now leads the team in batting average with a mark of .357 and a 1.082 OPS. Nicoll also has a team-leading two triples on the season. Jaden Woolbright also provides some offensive firepower for the Muleriders with a .356 batting average and 21 hits. The Muleriders' offense seems to be taking shape at this point in the season as four batters are hitting over a .300 clip. The long ball has also come into play recent for SAU as 11 out of the 23 total home runs have come in just the last four games. Austin Adair currently leads the pitching staff with his 1.31 ERA and 4-0 record. Adair picked up two wins against SNU with his appearances out of the bullpen this past weekend. Jeremy Adorno currently leads the staff with 22 punchouts and 22 innings pitched.

A Look at ATU
The Wonder Boys are coming off of a weekend that saw them finish with a 3-1 record sweeping Northwestern Oklahoma State but falling to Harding in a midweek. ATU got off to a rocky start this season with a 1-6 record in non-conference play but has picked up momentum with the start of the conference posting a 4-1 conference record thus far.

Sawyer Duddleston currently leads the Wonder Boys offense with his .373 batting average, three home runs, five doubles, 1.122 OPS, and a .647 slugging percentage. Cole Dawson provides more firepower for the Wonder Boys posting a .357 batting average, 15 hits, and 13 runs scored. Jack Rector currently leads the pitching staff with his 5.71 ERA while fanning 29 hitters thus far.
