MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (4-4, 0-0) are set to host the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison (5-2, 0-0) for the first GAC series of the 2025 campaign.
Series History vs OBU
The Muleriders currently hold a 19-10 overall record against the Bison. The first meeting between the teams came on February 19th, 2016, a 7-2 win for the Bison. The most recent meeting also saw an OBU win 6-4. Before their series last season, SAU was on a seven-game winning streak over the Bison before being swept in their 2024 meeting.
A Look at SAU
The Muleriders are coming off of a tough weekend at the Henderson State Invitational which saw the team finish with a 1-3 record. Despite the loss, the offense showed their firepower scoring 22 total runs over four games. The offense also found the longball last weekend belting five total homeruns.
Brandon Nicoll had himself a weekend at the plate going 8-for-18 (.444 avg) with one double, one triple, and one homerun. Nicoll also slugged .778 on the weekend and had a .473 on base percentage.
Eli Hutcherson also had a good outing for the Muleriders on the mound as he picked up his first win of the season throwing five innings while allowing two runs and striking out three hitters to help hold off Emporia State while the offense found life and took a late lead giving Hutcherson the win.
Lee Matsuzaki still leads the offense with his .406 batting average and 13 hits. Lee also leads the team in runs scored with nine, doubles with four, slugging percentage with a .688, on base percentage with a .444, and OPS with a 1.132.
Eli Hutcherson currently leads the pitching staff with a 4.00 ERA in nine innings pitched.
Jeremy Adorno is the second leading pitcher with a 4.22 ERA and 10.2 innings pitched.
A Look at OBU
The Bison are coming off of a 4-0 weekend after a series against Metropolitan State University of Denver. OBU currently holds a 5-2 record overall after dropping the first two games of the season to Pittsburg State University and the University of Missouri St. Louis. The Bison handled Metropolitan State outscoring the Roadrunners 38-13 through all four games.
DJ Van Atten currently leads the clubhouse with a .500 batting average and has collected 14 hits through seven games. Lucas Schaefer currently leads the Bison offense in homeruns with three. Bryant Thornton is the leading pitcher for the Bison boasting a 0.00 ERA through 11 innings pitched and has collected 11 strikeouts.
