Box Score 2 YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Southern Arkansas (2-2 | 0-0) saw another day of ball as the group faced 12
th-ranked Mississippi College (2-2 | 0-0) and Alabama-Huntsville (3-1 | 0-0). After starting the Mardi Gras Invitational 2-0 with a 4-3 win against Miles College and a 4-1 win against 7
th-ranked Augustana (SD), the Muleriders dropped both of their day two outings with a 4-6 loss to the Choctaws and a 4-5 walk-off loss to the Chargers.
Muleriders vs. #12 Mississippi College
Southern Arkansas looked to keep its momentum rolling from the day before as they started the scoring in their bout with the Choctaws going up two runs in the second inning.
Mississippi College retaliated back in the next inning with four runs in the top of the third to advance the score to 2-4 heading into the bottom of the third.
The Muleriders tied the contest right back in the bottom half of the third with a
Payton Owens double to left field scoring
Jocelyn Ulrich and a score by
Kelsie Adams on a wild pitch, 4-4.
The Choctaws once again countered back at Southern Arkansas as the group batted in a score in the fourth for the 5-4 and wouldn't surrender the advantage for the remainder of the game as they added on another run in the sixth with a single to center field for the final score of 4-6.
Muleriders vs. Alabama-Huntsville
Southern Arkansas looked to bounce back after the two-run loss to the Choctaws as the unit took on another Gulf South Conference opponent, the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville.
The Muleriders struck first in the contest with an infield single to the shortstop by
America Rubio to score
Cassidy Lear from third base.
The Chargers managed to tie the ball game back up at 1-1 with a homerun ball over the left field wall in the bottom of the fourth.
The Blue and Gold kept up the scoring with a pair of runs off of the bat of
Jocelyn Ulrich as the graduate student nailed the ball into the left-field corner to score
America Rubio and
Savannah Clausen for the 3-1 lead.
With two outs in the top of the fifth,
Jalyn McGuffin tacked on an RBI of her own with a shot to left field that scored Ulrich for the 4-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, UAH attacked back at the Muleriders with its second solo bomb of the day to cut the Blue and Gold's lead to two and relieve
Jaycie Hall for the remainder of the game to then bring in
Brinson Rogers in the hope of closing the game out.
For the remainder of the sixth, Rogers kept the Chargers at bay, but during the bottom of the seventh, the group used a fielder's choice to its advantage to cut the lead to one. The Chargers then loaded the bases and with a line drive past third base, the unit ended the game on a walk-off base hit scoring both runners in scoring position.

The Muleriders now turn to Sunday as they look to turn the tide with their contest against the Washburn Ichabods at 10:00 AM for the squad's final outing of the Mardi Gras Invitational.
