MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (5-6, 2-3 GAC) fell tonight to the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers (9-2, 5-0 GAC) by a final score of 66-51.
The game got off to a slow start as the first point of the game wasn't scored until the 17:38 mark in the first half as Ouachita converted one free throw to take a 1-0 lead. The Muleriders then retook the lead with a made jumper from
Greg Moore Jr. as the scoring started. From there, the Tigers went on a small run as they built their lead out to seven points, 11-4 with 14:38 to go in the first half.
Ouachita did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the first half as the SAU offense tried to chip away. At the break, the Tigers led 33-24.
After halftime, the Tigers came out and got the scoring going again with two quick buckets to take a 13-point advantage, 37-24. The Muleriders offensive struggles continued as Ouachita opened their largest lead of the game at 52-36 with 9:15 remaining. The Muleriders tried to chip away but the Tigers' offense was too strong tonight as they walked away with a win.
Junior Williams recorded his eighth consecutive game scoring double digit points while
Jair Horton (11), and
Greg Moore Jr. (10) also finished in double digits.
"Ouachita did a great job guarding us," said Head Coach
Mark Rutledge. "They really took advantage of our poor shooting. We've been in a slump for multiple games, but it'll get fixed. OBU got to the free throw line 38 times compared to our 16. We'll regroup after this break and bounce back."
