Mulerider Win Big Over Comets Behind 100 Total Points

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (3-2 GAC) defeated the UT-Dallas Comets by a final score of 100-79. The 100 points scored is the first time since scoring 105 points against Arlington Baptist University on November 16th, 2024. The Muleriders also had two players score 20+ points as Greg Moore Jr. and Junior Williams went for 20 each.

The Comets came out hot and drained an early three to take an early lead but Troy'reon Ramos didn't let it last for long as he got the Muleriders on the board quickly as well with a jumper of his own to cut the deficit to just one, 3-2. After a Junior Willams layup gave SAU the led, UTD took it right back with another three to go up 6-4.

The first 10+ minutes of the game was a battle as UTD took a lead and held it until SAU fought back to take a lead 25-24 with 7:45 remaining as Kendal Parker converted a layup. From there the Muleriders got hot quickly as they ballooned the lead out to 19 points with 1:09 remaining in the first half. A couple of free throws from Greg Moore Jr. followed by a fast break three from Moore Jr. took the lead to 24 as SAU went to the locker room leading 56-32.

After the half, the Blue and Gold continued their sharp shooting as they stretched the lead to 30 points, 62-32, while not allowing the Comets to score until the 18:39 mark in the second half. Despite the Comets fighting to come back the Muleriders offense was just too strong as another Troy'reon Ramos three put the Muleriders up 80-54 with 9:15 remaining. With 1:44 remaining, the Blue and Gold scored their 100th point of the contest as Troy'reon Ramos converted a fastbreak layup. The layup rounded out the scoring for SAU as they wrapped up the game with a big victory.

"We were concerned with UTD's size and length," remarked Head Coach Mark Rutledge when asked about his thoughts on the game. "They run a zone defense for most of the game which really fits their personnel. They are well coaches and play extremely hard. Our guys stayed together through some early adversity. Road games are extremely difficult to win. Proud of how our guys fought."

Greg Moore Jr. and Junior Williams led the scoring for SAU with 20 points each. Altogether, SAU had six players score in double digits. Jair Horton led the way with seven rebounds. As a team, the Muleriders shot 53.7% from the field, 50% from three-point range, and 90.9% from the free throw line.
