Muleriders Dominate Boll Weevils in 100th Battle of the Timberlands

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (8-3 GAC) finish their 2025 regular season schedule in dominant fashion on senior day with a 49-10 win over the University of Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils (2-9 GAC) in Magnolia.

The dominant performance was led by Hezekiah Harris at quarterback as the junior went 18-31 for 253 through the air and four passing touchdowns. Harris also ran for 79 yards and one touchdown. Zay Woods also totaled two interceptions on defense for the Muleriders. The defense as a whole totaled five interceptions on the day which is a season high.

The Muleriders won the opening toss and deferred their option to the second half as the Boll Weevils began on offense. The opening UAM drive was cut short by Zay Woods as he recorded his first interception of the game to give the Muleriders all the early momentum. The SAU offense then mounted a 12-play scoring drive that was capped off by a Hezekiah Harris two-yard passing touchdown to Cooper Sanders for the early 7-0 lead.

After a defensive stand at the end of the first quarter, the offense got the ball back and started driving as the first quarter came to a close. The Blue and Gold then scored to open the second quarter as Trussell caught the second touchdown pass of the game from Harris for 13-yards and the score, 14-0 SAU. The following UAM drive was then cut short again, this time by Tutt McGlothan in the endzone, and the offense got back to work. Despite momentum for the Blue and Gold, the offense couldn't get anything going and both teams traded a couple of defensive stops to end the first half of play.

Most of the scoring for the Muleriders came in the second half as they got the ball to open the third quarter and scored in one play as Harris connected with Arkez Gomez for a 41-yard passing touchdown and Harris' third of the game, 21-0 SAU. The Boll Weevils finally got on the scoreboard with a field goal with 11:43 to go in the third quarter but SAU still led 21-3.

SAU immediately drove down the field for another score as Harris ran in his fourth total touchdown of the day from six-yards out to extend the lead yet again, 28-3 SAU. The ensuing UAM drive was cut short by Zay Woods' second interception of the game which was followed quickly by Harris' fourth passing touchdown of the day this time finding Jacob Trussell over the middle for a 34-yard touchdown, putting SAU up 35-3. After a turnover on downs to end the third quarter for the Muleriders, the Blue and Gold defense collected their fourth interception of the game as Greg Hooks intercepted his first pass of the year.

After a 19-yard catch and run by Arkez Gomez on the ensuing drive then two 10+ yard rushes, the Muleriders found the endzone yet again as Katrevion Thomas found the promise land from five-yards out extending the lead, 42-3. The Boll Weevils did get on the board again on their ensuing drive with a touchdown to cut into the lead, but the Muleriders still led 42-10.

Adam Parker then extended the play on the ensuing SAU drive for a 61-yard rush putting the Muleriders at the UAM eight-yard line. Torey Lambert then capped off the drive three plays later from six yards out putting SAU up 49-10 with 2:34 remaining. The Muleriders then collected their fifth interception of the day as Tucker Brewster picked off the Boll Weevils giving SAU the ball back as they kneeled out the ball to win the 100th Battle of the Timberlands.
