SEARCY, Ark. – The Fall season for Mulerider Tennis has officially come to a close, and in a big way. The Muleriders traveled to Searcy County for the 2025 GAC Individual Championships. Southern Arkansas went into the setting and came out with many individual championships, including one for a doubles team.
On the women's side for singles, two Muleriders obtained individual championships with
Camila Corrales claiming the Flight 4 Singles title and
Taylor Conway snatching the Flight 4 Singles title.
Corrales, the senior out of Bolivia, won her flight after defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State's Amishi Shukla (6-2, 6-1) in the semis, to then move on and take down Harding's Ece Boylu (6-2, 2-6, 10-2).
For Conway, the native of Bixby, Oklahoma, won her flight after defeating Arkansas Tech's Zayla Ware (7-6 [7-4], 6-0), then Ouachita Baptist's Jennifer Pfaefflin (6-0, 6-1), and then finally Arkansas Tech's Natalya Montoya (6-1, 6-1).
The Mulerider Men nearly pulled off a clean sweep for singles play, as the unit won four out of the five flights taking place.
Winning the Flight 1 Singles was
Sebastian De Las Salas. The native of Colombia started off his stretch defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State's Luke Tinnok (6-3, 6-4). The junior went on to take down Harding's Cian Mikkelsen after the Bison went down due to an injury. For De Las Salas grand finale, the Mulerider's final obstacle to stand before him was his own teammate,
Frode Neumann. The two battled it out, but eventually De Las Salas claimed the prize in two sets (7-6 [7-2], 6-1).
In Flight 2, the eventual champion ended up being SAU's
Lucas Nitzschke. From Germany, Nitzschke claimed his title after beginning his run with a three-round battle, as the junior defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State's Eric Poindexter (6-2, 5-7, 10-8) and then went on to take down SE's Edoardo D'Arrigo (6-1, 6-2). To cap off Nitzschke's title claiming stretch, he overcame Ouachita Baptist's Moritz Buss (6-3, 6-2).
Moving on to Flight 3 Singles,
Jonas Sommer's began his run with a bye and went on to defeat Harding's Florian Gayme (7-6 [7-4], 6-4). Much like his teammate De Las Salas, Sommer was faced up against his teammate
Uwe Diehl for the flight title. Sommer, a native of Germany, claimed the title in a three-set slugfest between Muleriders (2-6, 6-4, 10-7).
The final singles flight champion for Southern Arkansas ended up being
Shun Wakino for Flight 5 Singles. Wakino, a native of Japan, began his championship run in the semis following a bye. The freshman began his stretch by overwhelming Harding's David Campbell (6-3, 6-1). He then went on to the finals for the flight and defeated Harding's Luke Rhoden with a clean sweep (6-0, 6-0).
The icing on top of the Muleriders' day ended up being in Flight 2 Doubles, as De Las Salas and
Balsa Djokovic claimed the title after winning round one against SE's Connor Shellem and Eric Poindexter (8-2). In the semis, the unit faced and took down OUA's Guillaume Randoux and Tinus Mueller handidly (8-5). Then to cap off the already fantastic outing, the squad defeated Harding's Edoardo D'Arrigo and Luis Aguillo Diaz Munio (8-6).
