MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The indoor season is here and the Mulerider Track and Field squad is set to kick off their 2025 campaign this Friday, January 24th, at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational. Hosted by Pittsburg State University, the event will take place inside the Robert W. Plaster Center, with field events scheduled for 12:30 pm and running events scheduled for 3:00 pm.
The Muleriders are set to make their debut at this year's Rumble in the Jungle Invitational, marking the first meet under the leadership of Head Coach James Bowlin.
Field events are set to begin at 12:30 p.m. with weight throw, long jump, and high jump kicking off the competition for the Muleriders. The pole vault will follow at 1:30 p.m., with the shot put and triple jump scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
On the track, events will start at 2:00 p.m. with the 60m hurdles, followed by the 60m dash at 2:30 p.m. The mile run is set for 3:20 p.m., the 400m at 4:40 p.m., and the 800m at 5:50 p.m. The 200m will take place at 6:20 p.m., the 3000m at 7:05 p.m., and the day with the 4x4 relay starting at 7:25 p.m.
Last year the Mulerider Women finished the season placing fourth among nine teams at the Great American Conference Championships, earning 109.50 points. The team celebrated seven All-GAC First Team selections, 13 Second Team honors, and one individual champion, Diamond Brunn, who won the long jump with a mark of 18' 11.25. Kamryn Floyed broke the program record in the 100m with a time of 11.93, becoming the first female Mulerider to run a sub-12-second 100m. The Muleriders' 4x100 relay team (Hunter, Floyd, Beaver, Collins) set a program record with a time of 46.58, earning second place and an NCAA DII Provisional mark. Additionally, Anaya Ervin broke the program record in the heptathlon with 4,805 points, securing second place.
Last season the Mulerider men finished third in the Great American Conference Championships, scoring 98 points. Southern Arkansas achieved notable success, highlighted by Derrick Onyeador claiming the Triple Jump title with a mark of 14.09m. Jason Patrick secured second place in the discus with a throw of 50.62m and finished the 2024 season competing at the NCAA DII Discus National Championship.
Overall, the Mulerider Men celebrated two individual champions, five All-GAC First Team selections, and ten All-GAC Second Team honorees.
