Muleriders fall to #9/7 Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – The Muleriders competed in their final regular season outing in the Sooner State as Southern Arkansas was unable to keep up with the No. 9/7 Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm in the Sawyer Center located in Bethany, Oklahoma. The Storm claimed their 25th victory of the 2023-24 campaign by a final score of 72-57, and continue to lead the league as they are now 19-1 in Great American Conference action.

SAU saw a pair of Muleriders in Tequaza Chambers and Addy Tremie score double-digit figures as Chambers accounted for 17 and the senior Tremie recorded 11. The junior Chambers made five of her ten attempts from the field as well as a shot from three (1-2). The Plain Dealing, Louisiana native led the Muleriders in free throws made and attempted after having made all of her six attempts at the charity stripe (8-8).

Tremie scored her eleven from beyond the arc primarily as she made three of her eight shots from three-point range and just one made jumper of her eleven total attempts from the floor.

Sihirah Reese led the team in rebounds as the sophomore recorded four boards in the game as she split on both offensive and defensive. She also tied for the lead in steals as she, Marlee Bright, and Zykeria Anderson all accounted for a pair of steals.

Southern Arkansas as a team shot 46.8% from the field (22-47) and saw 26 points in the paint while having 19 off of turnovers and 17 off of fast breaks. The Muleriders made 38.5% of their attempts from beyond the arc (5-13) and made all eight of their trips to the line.

Southern Nazarene was able to prevent the upset early in the outing as they outscored Southern Arkansas 24-11 after the first period. The Muleriders were able to hang around, minus the initial period, but was not able to prevent SNU from adding onto their overall score regardless of the improved offense.

SAU stays on the road for one last time as they travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas where they will face-off against the Ouachita Baptist Tigers for a better look at who clinches a spot at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma for March 7-10.
