Muleriders bested by Lady Rangers in Alva

ALVA, Okla. – The Muleriders have entered the final stretch of the regular season as they traveled just outside the the Oklahoma panhandle for their second matchup against the #23 Northwestern Oklahoma State Lady Rangers. To end the Thursday night contest, Southern Arkansas falls to the Lady Rangers once more by a score of 49-65. 

TOP PERFORMERS
Chloe Wilbanks led the Muleriders in scoring with her 11 points after making four of her eleven shots from the floor, in which three came from beyond the arc. Wilbanks recorded four rebounds (2 OREB | 2 DREB) with three assists and a steal. Diamond Morris accounted for 15th double-digit scoring effort of the season and sixth in a row. Morris was also responsible for four rebounds (4 DREB) and a couple assists and steals. Lynn Griffin recorded her most points since starting conference play with eight to her credit. The Muleriders accounted for 12 points off of turnovers and 20 points in the paint. 

THE GAME
While Southern Arkansas may have had the lead once in the first period of play, the squad hung around with the nationally ranked squad from Alva, Oklahoma after being down just 10-15 after the initial quarter. Morris' sole three-pointer from the contest put SAU up 7-6 just five minutes into the game, but would then be outscored 3-9 in the first quarter. In the second period, the Muleriders began down 10-17. Southern Arkansas then went on an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead, but  then was outscored 0-9 going into the half down 18-26. From this point on, Northwestern Oklahoma State succeeded in keeping the Muleriders out of competition by extending their lead as much as 15 points. SAU then cut down the deficit to eight points following a 12-5 series (39-47). With a good three-pointer from Wilbanks, the Muleriders would be down by just five points. Southern Arkansas would then be outscored 7-23 to close the game. With the loss, the Muleriders fall to 9-10 and 4-9 in Great American Conference while the Lady Rangers advance to 18-3 overall and a 10-3 conference record.
