MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Mulerider Women's Basketball takes its first loss of the 2024-25 campaign as the group fell to the Gulf South Conference's Delta State in a very tight and unusual low-scoring affair for the Muleriders.
Southern Arkansas' defense stood strong, once again, against the Lady Statesmen offensive attack, allowing just 35.9% from the field (14-39). After a hot start from the Mulerider offense, shooting 8-14 in the first period, SAU struggled to make shots the remainder of the contest, only making 9-31 for periods two through four. DSU outrebounded Southern Arkansas by just one board (29 – 28), while also staying out of foul trouble with just six personal fouls all game compared to the Muleriders 13.
Leading the charge for the Blue and Gold in nearly every facet of the contest was junior guard
Marlee Bright. The bright spot for the Muleriders made 50% of her shots, going 5-10, while also acquiring two rebounds, five assists, 11 points, and once again nearly having her first double-double with nine steals. After just one quarter, the basketball thief robbed the Lady Statesmen of possession five times and recorded ten points. Delta State keyed in on the Amity, Arkansas native for the next three periods, only allowing one more point from the charity stripe but four more steals.
Also breaking the double-digit barrier for points was
Chloe Wilbanks. The Leesville, Louisiana native scored ten points, shooting 3-6 and 2-2 from three-point range.
Southern Arkansas takes the Thanksgiving break to recollect itself as they regroup next Saturday at 1:00 PM against Dallas Christian College inside the W.T. Watson Center.
