ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Mulerider Volleyball made the trip to Clark County to take on the Henderson State Reddies and came in with fire in their eyes. The Reddies proved their might however and defeated Southern Arkansas 0-3. With the loss, the Muleriders' record now rests at 8-8 while being 2-2 in the Great American Conference. Henderson State advanced its record to 11-5 with a 3-1 record in the league.
Southern Arkansas challenged the Reddies through the first two sets, but would be outlasted by the strong HSU defense each set.
In the first set, Henderson State started quickly with a 0-7 lead over the Muleriders, but was quickly met by a 9-2 run from SAU that forced the home team to use a timeout. Each squad came out firing with a shootout set one. The set would end up going towards the Reddies 25-27.
Set two started in favor of the Muleriders with a quick 5-2 lead over HSU. Henderson State would show why its defense is first in the conference though as they took the lead back thanks to a 6-1 run. From then on for every Mulerider point, the Reddies would answer right back until HSU extended its lead to 18-24. Southern Arkansas would fight back at the end with a 4-0 run off of Brinklee Dauenhauer's serve, but was snuffed out by a Reddie kill.
The third set was all Henderson State as the Reddies had another quick seven-point lead at 2-9. Southern Arkansas closed the gap to as small as 6-10, but could not get over the obstacle. From then on, HSU cruised to a 15-25 set three win to earn the match win.
STATISTIC LEADERS
Junior Kayte Delong led the offense in kills with 8. Landry Rogers knocked down five of her own while also leading in hitting percentage with .235. Carlin Whaley tallied up her own seven kills. Morgan Schuster led her squad in assists with 16 while Macie Shaver recorded 15 to her statline.
Moultrie recorded three solo blocks and one assisted block. Delong put down her own solo block along with one assisted block. Isla Olivas forced a solo block along with Delong. Alessia Sonzini recorded the most digs on the night with 16 total.
