Miller headlines Mulerider Men’s Golf All-GAC honorees

McDonald, Harrington join Miller as HM selections; Harrington once again GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Junior Caleb Miller headlined the All-Great American Conference selections for Southern Arkansas Men's Golf as the Natural State product earned a first-team plaudit with fellow Arkansans Connor Harrington and Logan McDonald receiving all-league honorable mention. Harrington was also named a GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete for the second-consecutive season. The announcement was made by the league on Saturday, April 22 prior to Sunday's opening round.

Undoubtedly, the trio paced Southern Arkansas through eight regular season tournaments and the Great American Conference Championship and in the process made program history under third-year head coach Neriah Brown.

Miller, McDonald and Harrington are the first trio of Mulerider teammates to record rounds at 67 or better in the same season. Miller shot a 65 in round two of the league tournament which tied the GAC Championship record for low round score,while his first such round was a 67 in the final round of the season-opening NSU Golf Classic.

Harrington fired the first 67 of the season for SAU with a season-opening round at the NSU Golf Classic. Miller's effort two rounds later resulted in him and Harrington becoming the first pair of Mulerider teammates to shoot 67 or better at the same tournament.

Miller and McDonald are the first teammates to record a 65 in the same season which matches the program record for low round after McDonald fired a 65 in the opening round of the DBU Men's Classic before Miller joined the club at the GAC Championship. McDonald became the first American in program history and only the third player since 1993 to post a round at 65, while Miller became the fourth.

Miller put on an impressive showing as No. 1 bag for the Muleriders this season. He played in all nine tournaments and saw his score count toward the team total in all 26 rounds of which nine were at par or better.

A native of Cabot, Arkansas, Miller led the team in average score (73.42), score vs. par (+1.54), adjusted score vs. par (+1.44) and finish percentage (82.7%).

Miller delivered six individual top 15 finishes highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Great American Conference Championship to become the highest-finishing Mulerider ever at the league tournament.

The junior entered postseason play with momentum after recording a pair of 15th place results at both the DBU Classic (83 golfers) and the Natural State Classic (56 golfers). Over half of his top 15 finishes landed him inside the top seven with three of the four tournaments featuring at least 73 total golfers. Miller finished third of 88 at the Tulsa Cup, fourth of 73 at SAU's Arkansas Collegiate and seventh of 95 at the NSU Golf Classic behind a 54-hole total of 210 which was tied for the eighth-lowest such total in the program's Golf Stat Era.

Miller finished in the top 15 among regional opponents in eight of the team's nine tournaments with five of those finishes putting him in the top seven. Six of Miller's eight 54-hole tournaments saw him shoot 225 or better with three tournaments lower than 220.

A two-time GAC Golfer of the Week (Feb. 15 & April 5), McDonald saw his score count in 24 of the team's 26 rounds and through nine tournaments he owns a 70.2% finish percentage. McDonald has shot 75 or better in 16 rounds this season with half of those rounds at par or better including the two rounds in the 60s. He is averaging 74.23 per round.

Seven of his eight 54-hole efforts ended at 226 or better with two inside 215 including a team-best effort of 209 at the DBU Men's Classic; a career-best 54-hole total result which is currently tied for the sixth-lowest three-round total in program history.

McDonald recorded five top 15 finishes with three of those finishes landing him inside a field's top five. He finished second at the Natural State Classic, third at SAU's Arkansas Collegiate and fourth at the DBU Men's Classic. This season, he has finished second or better against regional competition in four tournaments which includes beating the field at the Houston Classic (1 st of 43) and DBU Men's Classic (1 st of 36). His effort of seven strokes under par at the DBU Men's Classic is a program-best single round vs. par.

Like Miller, Harrington's score counted in all 26 of the team's rounds and he fired 17 rounds this season at 75 or better with two of those rounds coming at par or better including the career-best 67. The Magnolia native recorded a finish percentage of 61.3% with an average score of 75.65.

This season, Harrington produced six 54-hole efforts at or lower than 230 with a season-best result of 216 at the season-opening NSU Classic. In terms of individual placements, Harrington finished inside a field's top 30 in seven of his nine tournaments with a season-best showing coming at the GAC Championship.

Harrington landed inside a field's top 30 on seven occasions with six of those placements at 25th or better. At the Battle for the Belt, Harrington placed 18th and then posted a season-best finish of 17th at the GAC Championship. The Arkansan also placed tied for 22nd at the NSU Classic following the aforementioned season-best effort.

At the Natural State Classic, Harrington became the 11 th player in program history to notch 100 birdies in a career. He enters NCAA postseason play with 109. Two holes later in the second round, McDonald became the 12th player in program history to reach the century mark in one-unders.

Harrington was named a GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete for the second time in his career. A senior in the classroom, Harrington is majoring in Mathematics with a minor in Education. He carries a GPA of 3.88
