Box Score 2 MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Mulerider Softball team opened up home play at Dawson Field with two losses to the Mississippi College Lady Choctaws this afternoon. MC claimed a 7-4 win over SAU in game one of the double header before completing the sweep with a 10-2 win in the second game. Southern Arkansas will return to the Margaret Downing Softball Complex on Friday at 4 p.m. for game one of their conference series against Henderson State. Game One
Southern Arkansas Notes
*Alyssa Miller and Mariah Hamilton both recorded two hits while three additional Muleriders contributed to their batting efforts.
*Sydney Ward was dealt her fourth loss of the season following a 3.1 inning effort that saw five earned runs on five hits. Maci McJunkins picked up efforts inside the circle to toss the final 3.2 innings for the Muleriders. McJunkins allowed just one run on four hits while striking out four.
*After being outscored three runs to none through two and a half innings, Southern Arkansas rallied in the bottom of the third to tie the game at three all. The first two Mulerider batters reached base safely, with Story reached after being it by a pitch and Miller singling down the left field line. Nillen brought Storey home with a single to center field and King batting in their second run with a base knock of her own. Dyson wrapped up SAU scoring in the inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Nillen.
*The Muleriders posted their fourth run in the fourth inning when Hamilton launched a ball onto the Bodcaw Bank berm past center field.
Mississippi College Notes
*The Lady Choctaws got on the board early in game one of the double header. They snagged an early walk before claiming their first hit of the day. Another single drove home their first run of the day before grabbing a 2-0 lead when another runner reached on a Mulerider error.
*Mississippi College increased their lead to three runs through a solo homerun in the third.
*Southern Arkansas tied the game in the bottom of the third through a three-run rally, but the tie game didn't last long as the Lady Choctaws responded with three runs of their own in the fourth. Jordan Moore was hit by a pitch in MU's first at bat of the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from teammate Jordan LaFosse. Shelby Samples singled to score Moore. Kamryn Eaton homered to right field to score the other two runs of the inning.
*Eaton hit her second home run of the contest, a solo bomb to left field in the sixth.
Game Two
Southern Arkansas Notes
*Baylie Thornhill, Morgan McAlexander and Kate Faber combined efforts inside the circle for the Muleriders with Thornhill being tabbed with her second loss of the season.
*The Muleriders responded to the one-run Mississippi College second inning with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Kamryn Moctezuma drew a walk and advanced to second on a Courtney Storey single to third. Both runners advanced to scoring position on a throwing error by the second baseman. Ariana Rolle brough Moctezuma home with a single to third.
*Southern Arkansas began to chip away at the four-run Choctaw lead in the fourth inning where they tabbed their second run of the game. Jaxynn Dyson doubled to lead off the inning. Moctezuma singled to place runners at the corners and allow Dyson to score on a sacrifice fly from Storey.
Mississippi College Notes
*Mississippi College got on the board first in game two of the double header. The second inning saw one MC run on two hits that included a double.
*Brooke Fagan singled to lead off the third innings and made her way home on an Ergle double to center. Moore singled to place runners at the corners, allowing Ergle to score on a throwing error by the catcher. LaFosse drew a walk and scored alongside Moore on a Samples single.
*Samples began the sixth inning with a single before teammate Eaton homered to left center.
*Ergle hit a solo home run to begin the seventh inning. Three consecutive singles combined with a Mulerider error allowed two final runs for the Lady Choctaws in the double header.
