MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas drops its second ballgame of the year making its record 6-2 while now being 1-2 in the Great American Conference. The Ouachita Baptist Tigers came into the W.T. Watson Center and handed SAU their first loss at home this season in an overtime thriller. This marks the first and only loss that the Muleriders have taken, or will take, against a program from Arkadelphia, Arkansas inside the W.T. Watson Center for the current academic calendar.
TOP PERFORMERS
Southern Arkansas saw three players go for double-digit scoring with senior
Addy Tremie leading with 18 points after she caught fire from beyond the three-point line in the second half making four of her seven attempts from the range.
Tequaza Chambers accounted for 12 points this afternoon making six of her ten shots while also recording six rebounds and, five assists, and a couple steals.
Diamond Morris tallied 11 with help from her three of four free throws made.
Sihirah Reese led SAU in rebounds with seven defensives and three offensive boards. The Muleriders had a very balanced offense as 34 points came from inside the paint while also recording 20 points off of turnovers.
THE GAME
The first period of play was an even matchup between the two squads with 14-14 tie after one. The Tigers began to heat up in the second as they pushed their lead to a game-high nine-point differential, but would be closed down to a 33-28 OUA lead at the half. Ouachita Baptist came out in the third just as tough as they raised their lead back to nine going up 40-31 halfway through the period. Before the period had ended, SAU came back down nine to tie the ballgame at 49 apiece going into the fourth. The fourth period saw no room to breathe as neither team had a lead larger than three points. With the game tied at 63-63 late, each squad tried their hand in a last second game-winning shot, but came up empty handed. The Tigers would recollect themselves at the end of regulation and went on to record a 9-4 series to knock off Southern Arkansas 72-67.
