Muleriders defeated by Southeastern Oklahoma State

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southeastern Oklahoma State entered into the W.T. D'Nari Mills led the charge SOSU by showing why she leads the nation in total kills (2nd nationally in attacks, kills/set, points/set). Also, for the Savage Storm, Ruthie Forson controlled the offensive motion with 45 assists on the night.

Kayte Delong led Southern Arkansas in total kills as she tallied up 11 while also assisting on three blocks to earn 12.5 points. Junior Carlin Whaley was right with Delong as she recorded 10 of her own kills. Morgan Schuster and Macie Shaver split the assist numbers as each recorded 17. Alessia Sonzini controlled SAU's backline with 21 digs while Ava Tanner assisted her in the matter with 16 of her own. Isla Olivas put back two solo blocks while assisting Delong with one. Lauryn Moultrie recorded her own solo block while also assisting the Sunflower State native with two.

SET ONE
The first set saw a back forth match up early that pushed to Southern Arkansas to a 10-8 lead over Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Storm caught a spark off of a Schuster service error to then enable SOSU to a 11-2 run. From then on, Southeastern Oklahoma State cruised to a set one win.
SET TWO
Much like set one, the second set saw an offensive shootout between both squads up until 9-9 mark. After that, the Savage Storm extended their lead with an 8-2 run to jump out 11-17. Southern Arkansas could not come back from the deficit as Southeastern Oklahoma State won set two 17-25.
SET THREE
Southeastern Oklahoma State got going quick in the third set with a 0-4 lead. The Muleriders would then close the gap to an even 6-6 set, but would be followed up by a 0-3 run from the Savage Storm. Southern Arkansas calmed the Storm with a 12-1 immediately after. The Muleriders never gave the lead back up, but did see adversity from SOSU as they closed the deficit to a three-point set. Southern Arkansas would nip the retaliation with a final 3-0 run to win set three 25-19.
SET FOUR
The fourth set saw another early shootout from both groups and would eventually earn the 11-9 lead. Set four would remain fairly close, but Southeastern Oklahoma State would eventually take their sixth match of 2023 with 25-21 set four win over the Muleriders.
