Three programs hold regional rankings as postseason play draws near

Mulerider Baseball, Men’s Tennis both No. 2 in respective Central Region rankings; Mulerider Softball holds at No. 6

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The postseason beckons the NCAA spring calendar and on Wednesday, the organization released its regional rankings for multiple sports and among the announcements were the second Division II softball regional rankings which saw eighth-year head coach Jason Anderson's Southern Arkansas Muleriders hold at No. 6 for the second-straight week. Sixth-year head coach Justin Pettigrew's Mulerider Baseball team appeared at No. 2 in the first Division II baseball rankings for the Central Region, while fourth-year head coach Greg Owen's Mulerider Men's Tennis team entered MIAA-GAC postseason play as the No. 2 team in the Central Region rankings.
 
Mulerider Softball (33-14, 24-6 GAC) nestles inside the top eight regionally for the second-consecutive week and is the second-highest ranked Great American Conference team behind No. 5 Arkansas Tech. Central Oklahoma holds the top spot and is followed by Rogers State at No. 2 and a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference representatives at No. 3 and No. 4 in Minnesota State and Augustana, respectively. Washburn claims the No. 7 ranking and Winona State is currently No. 8, while Harding and Minnesota Duluth are No. 9 and 10.
 
Mulerider Baseball, a consensus top 25 team all season with consistent top 10 placement over the past month and a half of the regular season, is in at No. 2 in the first regional rankings released for Division II baseball. SAU (36-9, 26-4 GAC) is slotted below reigning Central Region champion Central Missouri and currently edges NSIC foes Augustana at No. 3, Minnesota State at No. 5 and Minot State at No. 8. GAC foe Henderson State checks in at No. 4, while the MIAA adds Northeastern State at No. 6 and Washburn at No. 7.
 
In both baseball and softball, eight teams advance to the NCAA postseason in the Central Region with the top two seeds hosting three other programs with each sub-regional winner advancing to the super regional.
 
Mulerider Men's Tennis (19-4) began its postseason run as the No. 2 team in the Central Region behind MIAA-GAC Tournament title match opponent Ouachita. MIAA North Division regular season champion Northwest Missouri ranks at No. 3, while the MIAA's Washburn is in at No. 4. The top two seeds in the region will host the lower two seeds with the winners of each preliminary round advancing to the National Tournament.
