#8/7 Muleriders drop midweek tilt at Arkansas Tech

Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – #8/7 Southern Arkansas' six-game win streak was halted on Tuesday afternoon as Arkansas Tech topped the Muleriders 11-8 in nonconference action from Baswell Field. SAU's record slips to 23-5 overall.

The Muleriders recorded ten hits in the midweek contest and plated eight runs with five coming across the final two innings of action. Tech recorded 15 hits and used a four-run fourth inning and two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings of play to separate from SAU down the stretch.

SAU led 3-0 after its second trip to the plate which was highlighted by a two-run single by Chris Lyles and a run-plating bunt single from Riley Orr that put the Muleriders ahead early. Tech responded with two runs in the home half of that frame. Five of the Wonder Boys' next six runs would come off of base hits, including four doubles, to push the host out front 8-3 through five innings of play. ATU pushed across two more runs in the sixth to lead 10-3, before Lyles connected on a two-run shot in the eighth to cut the deficit to five, while a two-run blast from McGee in the ninth as well as an RBI-groundout by Jakob Machuca accounted for the final Mulerider runs of the afternoon.

Sutton recorded three hits and Brandon Nicoll followed with a pair. Sutton delivered half of the team's eight RBI. SAU struck out a dozen times and walked just once.

Seven pitchers threw for the Muleriders on Tuesday. Jonny Vesevick's 1.1 innings highlighted the mound performers as he struckout two and did not allow a hit.

The Muleriders return home for another high-stakes Great American Conference series this weekend. SAU hosts Henderson State on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2. The series opener is set for a 6 p.m. start on Friday night. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 2 p.m. Live coverage links are available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
