Muleriders go 2-0 on final day of UCO/OC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OKAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas University softball closed out the UCO/OC Tournament with two big wins on Sunday afternoon and have now won three games in a row. The Muleriders took down Fort Hays State 3-2 in the first game followed by a 4-2 victory over Nebraska-Kearney in game two. SAU now moves to 7-8 on the season after going 3-2 this weekend in Oklahoma.

SAU 3, FSU 2

The Muleriders never trailed in game one as they jumped out in front of FSU in the top of the second inning as Jaxynn Dyson hammered a solo blast, which was her second of the tournament. Mariah Hamilton was able to push across Uchenna Jong Loy on a single to go up 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning, while the other Mulerider run would come one inning later off of the bat of Sarah Evans as she drove in Jade Miller.

FSU was able to push across two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Memphis transfer Macie Welch was able to relieve Kiana Pogroszewski to pick up the final six outs of the game and earn a save. Pogroszewski moves to 2-1 in the circle after picking up the win today. She tossed 5.0 innings while allowing six hits on five strikeouts and no earned runs. Welch was able to strike out three of the six batters she faced in the save effort. Hamilton led SAU with two hits, while Evans, Dyson, Jade Miller, Jong Loy and Taylor Murphy all collected one.

SAU 4, UNK 2

Game two saw another good pitching performance from Sydney Ward as she picked up her 4th win of the season. Ward pitched 5.0 innings while allowing just one run on five strikeouts. Welch picked up her second save of the afternoon after tossing the final 2.0 innings as she struck out three batters and allowed one run. Jong Loy led SAU with a two run single and sac fly for three total RBI.

The Muleriders will return to Magnolia this week as they are set to host their home opener on Tuesday against Texas A&M Kingsville in a double-header. The first game is set to start at 2:00 p.m. while game two will start at 4:00 p.m. You can find live links to both games here.
