Muleriders fall in final inning

BETHANY, Okla. – Playing in five games against tough competition in Oklahoma City this weekend, the Southern Arkansas University softball team fell in their first game of the UCO/OC tournament to Lubbock Christian on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning 3-2. This is the fourth game of the season that SAU has lost by one run as they are now 4-7 on the year.

LCU got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning as they plated one run followed by a another run in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Muleriders would get their only two runs of the game in the top of the third inning as Alyssa Miller, who was making her first start of the season, led the inning off with a triple. Jade Miller was able to clear the bases with her team leading fourth homerun of the season to tie the game at 2-2. After three innings of scoreless softball LCU was able to plate one more run when it mattered the most as Donaldson scored lee on a single to right center to take down SAU.

Alyssa Miller and Jade Miller both collected two hits for the Muleriders, while Taylor Murphy finished with one hit. Sydney Ward set a new career high in strikeouts with nine as she was tabbed with the loss in the circle after tossing 6.2 innings and giving up nine hits on three runs.
