KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Friday's action at the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional from the par 71, 6,943-yard course of the Shoal Creek Golf Club was highly productive for Southern Arkansas' Canadian duo of junior
Roman Timmerman and senior
Kade Johnson. Timmerman posted a consecutive round at even par to enter Saturday's final 18 holes tied for eighth at 142. Johnson shaved eight strokes off of his Thursday scorecard as he shot a 73 (+2) to enter the last round tied for 63
rd at 154; a 14-place improvement on Friday.
Timmerman finds himself just two strokes back of the top individual not associated with a team that is currently in the top four. Grand Valley State's Nick Krueger is -2, while Southwestern Oklahoma State's Kason Cook is -1. Timmerman, along with Rogers State's Luke Palmowski are even. Central Missouri (-14), Indianapolis (+4), Henderson State (+5), and Arkansas Tech (+9) are the top four teams.
Timmerman and Johnson are competing for a spot in the national tournament as the top individual not on an advancing team will join the field at the NCAA DII Men's Golf National Championship.
On Friday, Timmerman went +1 as he made par on eight of his first nine holes. He birdied two of his next four and finished with a birdie to post a second-straight 71 and remain in the hunt for the national tournament. Through two rounds, the Saskatoon native has recorded eight birdies and has made par on 21 holes.
Johnson's second round saw him shave two strokes off of his Thursday score on No. 17 and six strokes off of his round one result on No. 9 which he birdied on Friday. He made par on 15 holes to push his tournament total to 23.
