Searcy, Ark. – When people think of dynamic duos, a few things immediately pop to mind:
peanut butter and jelly. Mac and cheese. Sonny and Cher. And while they're all great duos in their own right, for Mulerider Softball fans over the past five seasons, no pairing is held in higher regard than seniors
Faith Otts and
Victoria Taylor, who both achieved career milestones this afternoon against Harding.
Faith Otts reached her milestone first when she started the scoring in game one with a two-run homerun to left field in the third inning. The homerun represented the 200
th hit of the third baseman's prolific career, and the Benton native becomes only the fifth player in program history to reach that milestone.
Elisa Favela and
Laina Suesue also homered in the game, with Favela going back-to-back with Otts and Suesue's homerun being a two-run shot to bring the score to 5-0.
That was all the run support Taylor needed in the circle as she threw her 23
rd career shutout, striking out eight and only conceding three hits and a walk. The 23
rd shutout passes HSU's Michelle Sorenson for most shutouts in GAC history, and the victory, her ninth of the season, also sees the Greenwood native pass Sorenson for most wins in conference history with 76.
Jaxynn Dyson led off game two with a homerun, and the Muleriders doubled the score two innings later on an
Alese Casper RBI single.
Harding would tie the game at 2-all, but a
Sarah Evans solo homerun to lead off the sixth inning would put the Muleriders back in the ascendency, and the Muleriders would tack on an insurance run on a Bisons error later in the same frame.
Favela, in relief of starter Syndey Wader, picked up the win as she threw three hitless, perfect innings, striking out six batters and facing the minimum of nine batters.
The Muleriders look to complete the sweep tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
