Box Score 1 Commerce, Texas – The SAU Softball team, just off of being named the #9 team in the country, faced #2 Texas A&M-Commerce today in a double-header. The Lions took game one before inclement weather got involved in the bottom of the fifth inning in game two, making that game a no contest; when the game was called off, the Muleriders had jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the hosts.
Game one started off on the wrong foot for the Muleriders when the Lions pushed a run across in the bottom of the first frame. The hosts doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning before
Faith Otts left the yard to tie the game at two-all, her second homerun of the season.
However, the hosts would take the lead back in the bottom of the sixth, with an RBI double followed by a two-run homerun to make the score 5-2, where it would not move from despite the Muleriders loading the bases in the final inning.
Victoria Taylor took the loss, her first of the season. The senior allowed six hits and five runs, all earned, and walked five while striking out four.
The Muleriders are now 9-4 on the season; they return to action this weekend when they host Southeastern Oklahoma State in a three-game conference series.
