Ada, Okla. – The SAU Softball team made their first foray into the Sooner State on Friday, taking on East Central in a conference double-header. Despite a late-inning comeback for the hosts in game one, the Muleriders were able to fend off the Tigers before an emphatic 7-1 victory in game two.
The Muleriders started the scoring off in the top of the first inning with a
Jaxynn Dyson hitting a three-run homerun, her third of the season.
They added another run in the next inning, with a
Faith Otts hit by pitch with the bases loaded driving in a run, and Dyson scored the next inning on an
Alese Casper RBI single.
The Tigers pulled back three runs in the bottom of the third and the Muleriders promptly responded with
Sarah Evans driving in a pair of runs on an RBI double.
Casper hit another RBI single in the sixth inning to score Dyson's fourth run of the game and give the Muleriders an all-important eighth run.
The Tigers scored three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh; and, had runners on second and third with only one out in the final frame, but
Elisa Favela, in relief, made sure the runners did not cross the plate en route to her third save of the season.
Victoria Taylor picked up her sixth win of the season, striking out seven in 5.2 innings pitched.
The Muleriders started the scoring in game two in the second inning with a Favela double and
Christina Hill single setting up an Evans RBI single, and Hill would go on to score later on a
Maeson Grace double.
The Muleriders scored the next inning on an East Central error, and the hosts would notch their first run in response.
Hill would drive in her first run of the series on an RBI single in the fifth inning, and Hill would drive in another run in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk.
Evans followed Hill with an RBI single that scored a pair of runs to bring the game to the final score of 7-1.
Sydney Wader picked up her second win of the season, throwing a complete game and only allowing five hits and a single run.
The Muleriders are 8-3 on the season and 5-2 in conference play. They finish their series with the Tigers tomorrow at noon.
