MAGNOLIA – The SAU Women's Basketball team entered the final two games of the regular season tonight, hosting Eastern Division leaders Arkansas Tech on Thursday. With the Muleriders holding a 39-35 halftime lead, the Suns outscored the Muleriders 36-26 in the third quarter, which ultimately put the Suns in the ascendancy.
The Suns shot 65 percent in the third frame, going 15-23 from the field and 3-4 from three-point range.
Ashlei Lopez led all players with 20 points.
Kisi Young paced the Muleriders in scoring, being one of four Muleriders to hit double figures. The Magnolia native shot 7-13 from the field, going 4-5 from the free throw line. Young also grabbed eight rebounds (five offensive) and two steals, as well as being the top assister with five.
Ariana Guinn and
Jessica Jones each scored 17 points; Guinn went 7-15 from the field while Jones went 5-10 from deep and made both of her free throws.
Diamond Morris also scored 10 points, grabbing five rebounds in the process; and
Lillie Moore scored six points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a pair of Suns shots.
The Muleriders stay fifth in the Eastern Division with the regular season coming to a close on Saturday versus Harding inside the W. T. Watson Center.
