MAGNOLIA – The SAU Volleyball team returns to action for the first time in two weeks tonight when they make the trip over to Drew County to face rivals Arkansas-Monticello. They will be the third Mulerider team to make the trip this week, and they hope to replicate the results for both basketball teams, who both won last night.
The Muleriders are 0-3 on the season, having taken sets this season from Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist in their first two games.
The Weevils are 1-2 on the season, winning their last time out versus the Tigers two weeks ago; additionally, the Weevils have won the last three matchups against the Muleriders.
On the season,
Morgan Gross leads the Muleriders with 48 kills in 12 sets played. The senior has an attack percentage of .205, a career-best for the southpaw.
Morgan Schuster has picked up where she left off her freshman season. The Arlington, Texas native is second in the conference with 116 assists and fifth with 9.67 assists per set. Schuster sits just 11 assists from hitting 1,000 in her Mulerider career, becoming the ninth player to do so in program history.
Victoria White and
Landry Rogers have shown themselves to be important pieces in the lineup, with the pair of freshman being second and third on the team in kills with 29 and 22, respectively. White also holds the team lead in service aces with five, tied with
Abby Bermudez, while Rogers is responsible for four solo blocks; the rest of the team has four solo blocks combined.
Bermudez and
Lauren Smith, the only other two returning upperclassmen in addition to Gross, have held it down in the middle for the Muleriders, combining for 30 kills and 16 blocks.
Defensively, Baily Kirk and
Brianna Nipper have combined for 72 digs.
