#19 Muleriders Win Third GAC Series of Season; Take Two of Three from Southwestern Oklahoma

Southern Arkansas keeps pace near top of league standings; one game back of Oklahoma Baptist

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – #19 Southern Arkansas continued to swing some hot sticks during the front end of Saturday's twin bill with Southwestern Oklahoma State as the Muleriders won 13-2 to take their third Great American Conference series of the season, but the Bulldogs salvaged their weekend by winning the seven-inning finale 8-2. SAU improves to 18-4 overall with an 8-4 mark in league play.

In the first game, SAU banged out 16 hits and plated at least one run in each of the final seven innings with two runs coming across in four frames highlighted by a four-run seventh inning that broke the contest open. Southern Arkansas belted four home runs in the win with senior Josh Walker leaving the yard on two separate occasions: a solo home run in the sixth and a grand slam in the seventh. Walker finished game two of the series 3-for-3 with four runs scored and five RBI.

Sophomore Ty Manning also hit a home run in Saturday's opener as his solo shot in the fourth inning put SAU up 3-0 after a two-run single by sophomore Brett McGee in the third inning opened scoring. Following Manning's blast, a bunt single by sophomore Riley Orr plated senior Zach Muldoon and in the fifth, McGee answered SWOSU's first run with a solo blast of his own.

Manning recorded a sacrifice fly in the eighth and an RBI infield single in the ninth, while Peterson was hit by pitch with the bases loaded to plate Walker in the eighth.

Manning finished the first game of the day 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. McGee finished with three RBI and was one of five players with a multi-hit game in the opener. On the mound, junior southpaw Hunter Brantley went eighth innings, while allowing just six hits and two runs with four strikeouts to keep the Bulldogs off balance offensively. Junior Jack Liddell worked a hitless ninth inning in relief of Brantley.

In the finale, the Mulerider bats were settled for the most part as Southwestern Oklahoma's Eric Estrada tossed six innings of four-hit baseball, while allowing just two runs. Morris was responsible for SAU's scoring in game three as a fourth inning RBI single brought the Muleriders to within one run of the SWOSU lead at 2-1. In the sixth inning, Morris plated Peterson on an RBI groundout.

The Muleriders return to action on Tuesday in Arkadelphia for a nonconference matchup with Henderson State at 6 p.m. from Clyde Berry Field. Live coverage links are available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
