#19 Muleriders use Early Offense to Ease by Henderson State in Non-conference Action

Southern Arkansas takes advantage of 13 walks and five hit-by-pitch; records 11 hits and scores 10+ runs for sixth time this season

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – #19 Southern Arkansas pushed across nine runs in the first four innings of play on Tuesday afternoon from Clyde Berry Field and added four more runs in the final three innings to ease by Henderson State 13-5 in nonconference action. The win improves the Muleriders to 11-0 in nonconference games this season and 19-4 overall.
 
A three-run double by senior Josh Walker and a two-run double by sophomore Brett McGee highlighted a five-run second inning and in the third frame, senior Austin Baker answered Henderson State's first two runs as he emptied the bases loaded with a double to make it 8-2 Muleriders. SAU collected seven doubles in the game in addition to walking 13 times and reaching base five times on hit by pitch.
 
Walker homered for the fifth time this season in the fourth inning which put SAU up 9-2 and in control. Freshman Dakota Frachiseur (W, 1-0) earned his first career win with 4.2 relief innings of SAU starter Jacob Womack who tossed the first two innings allowing two hits and two runs with three strikeouts. Frachiseur scattered six hits and allowed no earned runs while fanning five, before junior Jack Liddell pitched the final 2.1 innings with just one hit allowed and four punch outs.
 
Baker led the team with three hits, all doubles, and added three RBI and a run scored. Walker went 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored and senior Zach Muldoon went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Six players recorded two or more walks led by McGee's three. The sophomore now has 25 walks in 23 games.
 
The Muleriders return to Oklahoma and Great American Conference play with a three-game series against East Central. Friday's opener is set for 2 p.m. with Saturday's twin bill scheduled for noon. Live coverage links available at www.MuleriderAthletics.com.
