MAGNOLIA – The SAU Women's Basketball team failed to keep their winning streak alive on Thursday, dropping their contest to Henderson State 79-72, with a fourth quarter comeback unable to overcome a third quarter where the Reddies outscored the Muleriders 27-9.
Going into halftime tied, the Muleriders shot 3-17 from the field in the third quarter, missing on all four attempts from three.
The 18-point deficit was too much for the Muleriders to surmount despite shooting 11-21 from the field in the fourth quarter.
Kisi Young led the Muleriders with 16 points on 8-12 shooting from the field. The Magnolia native grabbed seven rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
Kylie Warren scored in double figures for the third game running with 13 points on 4-15 shooting, including making two of the Muleriders' three makes from deep.
Six Muleriders, including Young and Warren, recorded more than one steal as the hosts forced the visitors into 28 turnovers.
Alyssa Crase grabbed a game-high six steals, as well as six rebounds.
Diamond Morris scored eight points and recorded four steals;
Braydyn Hill scored all seven of her points in the fourth quarter, and
Makayla Gatewood scored a season-high nine points on 4-4 shooting from the field.
The Muleriders are now 14-7 and 8-7 in conference play. They hit the road to take on Arkansas Tech on Saturday.
