Ariana Guinn's layup with 2.1 seconds left gives the Muleriders the win

Russellville, Ark. – The SAU Women's Basketball team had not lost two games in a row all season entering today. However, with 9:12 left in the fourth quarter and Arkansas Tech up 69-52 in Tucker Coliseum, it seemed like things would change.

Over the next two minutes, a pair of made threes from Doriana Brown and Lena Maledon, as well as a pair of free throws from Kisi Young cut the lead to nine. The Suns make a jumper to push it back to 11.

Alyssa Crase made a jumper and Fatarah Kinnard forced a turnover for a fast break score by Kisi Young to cut it to seven points.

Maggie Evans made a layup to cut it to five points before a pair of make jumpers by Arkansas Tech doubled the lead to 10 points.

Two Muleriders split trips at the free throw lines to cut it to eight points before a Tech makes a jumper to restore the lead to 10 points.

Jerica Bell responded with a jumper to push it to eight. Tech splits at the charity stripe to make it nine points with 2:22 left in the game.

Then Ariana Guinn makes a three-pointer. Six points.

Maledon steals and fast break score by Crase. Four points.

Guinn makes a pair of free throws. Two points.

Young misses a layup, grabs the rebound and puts it back in. Tied game.

In overtime, Tech would jump out to a four-point lead and maintained a small lead until 1:51 left when the first of seven lead changes would take place courtesy of a Diamond Morris layup.

Tech would regain the lead, but only just for Morris to recapture the lead with another layup.

Tech would respond with a layup of their own to take back the lead with 36 seconds left when, coming out of a timeout, coach Adam Collins drew an out-of-bounds play that gave Maledon an open three on the left wing, which she buried to give the Muleriders a two-point lead, their largest since 8:24 left in the first quarter.

A Tech three-pointer would give the hosts the lead, but Guinn drove down the court, and with six seconds left, drove into the lane, spun, and shot as the ball bounced off the back iron and in.

Makayla Gatewood would steal the ensuing inbounds pass and the Muleriders completed a 17-point, fourth-quarter comeback to give them their first win in Russellville since January 6th, 2005.

Young led all scorers with 16 points. The Magnolia native grabbed seven rebounds and recorded two steals.

Guinn scored 14 points, none more important than her last two. Only shooting 3-10 from the field, she willed her way to the free throw line, going 7-8. The sophomore point guard also grabbed four rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.

Maledon provided a season-high 12 points, as she was perfect on all four of her attempts from three in 11 minutes off the bench.
