MAGNOLIA – The SAU Women's Basketball overcame a four-point first quarter and an eight-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to claim victory over Ouachita Baptist.
The Tigers, entering the game with only one conference win, had their upset bid foiled by the Mulerider press as they committed 30 turnovers. The Muleriders turned those 30 turnovers into 29 points.
Both teams got off to glacial start in the first interval, combining for 14 points 7-30 shooting from the field.
Diamond Morris led the Muleriders with 18 points on 6-19 shooting from the field. The freshman went 2-7 from three and made all four of her free throws. Morris also grabbed six rebounds and three steals in a team-high 25 minutes on the floor.
Kisi Young and
Ariana Guinn both scored 12 points. Young went 5-11 from the field while Guinn went 4-11.
Young grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, with seven coming on the offensive glass.
The Muleriders played all 14 players they had dressed while the Tigers only played six of the seven they dressed. The Muleriders outscored the Tigers 45-37 in the second half.
The Muleriders bettered the Tigers in second chance points, fast break points and bench points.
The Muleriders improve to 16-8 on the season and 10-8 in conference play. The Muleriders, who could clinch a spot in the GAC Tournament this upcoming Thursday, host league leaders Southeastern Oklahoma.
