MAGNOLIA – The SAU Women's Basketball team dropped their meeting against league leaders Southeastern Oklahoma tonight, with the Muleriders scoring the first nine points of the game on the back of six Storm turnovers in the first three and a half minutes of the game.
The Muleriders rattled the Storm early, but were able to bounce back for a 15-7 run the rest of the quarter to close the early deficit to a single point.
The Storm shot over 50 percent in the second and fourth quarter, as well as going 9-19 from three.
The Muleriders saw four players score in double figures, led by senior
Tamera Shaver's 16 points. Responsible for four of the Muleriders' six makes from deep, Shaver went 6-9 from the field and 4-6 from three.
Diamond Morris dropped 15 to go along with five steals;
Fatarah Kinnard went 5-7 from the field, grabbing three rebounds and three steals; and
Kisi Young went 6-7 from the charity stripe en route to scoring 12 points.
The Muleriders, despite forcing 32 Storm turnovers, were outrebounded by the visitors 48-27 which included nine offensive rebounds for 16 second-chance points.
The Muleriders are now 16-9 on the season and 10-9 in conference play. Two games ahead of ninth-place Northwestern Oklahoma, a win over East Central on Saturday and a Rangers loss to Henderson State would see the Muleriders clinch their first postseason bid since 2015.
