Alva, Okla. – The SAU Women's Basketball team picked up a huge win on Saturday against Northwestern Oklahoma, winning 68-63 inside Percifull Fieldhouse behind strong shooting efforts from behind the arc courtesy of
Kylie Warren and
Erin Brinkley.
Warren scored in double-digits for the ninth time this season, going for 15 points on 4-10 shooting from the floor, including 4-9 from deep. This is the fourth time this season the sophomore has made four or more threes in a game.
Including her 3-5 from Thursday, the Carlisle native shot 7-14 from three-point range this weekend. On the season, Warren is shooting 39.5 percent from deep.
Brinkley, much like Warren, made four threes on the game. The senior totaled 12 points on eight attempts from three-point land, and added three rebounds, a block and a steal.
The Tyler, Texas native matched her career total in threes entering this season in this contest alone. After her junior season, Brinkley was 4-48 from three in her career. Today, she shot 4-8, and is 28-91 on the season, good enough for 30.8 percent.
The Muleriders held the Rangers to only 49 shot attempts, forcing 22 turnovers. The Muleriders scored 21 points off those turnovers.
The Mulerider bench proved to be the catalyst in this game. After trailing 20-14 to end the first quarter, 18 of the Muleriders' 24 second-quarter points came from the bench. The Mulerider bench outscored the Ranger bench 40-5 and 29-0 over the last three quarters.
This win puts two games between the Muleriders and the Rangers in the GAC Standings with eight games left to play. The Muleriders improve to 14-6 on the season and 8-6 in conference play, and they return to action next Thursday inside the W. T. Watson Center against Henderson State.
