MAGNOLIA – The SAU Women's Basketball team returned to their winning ways tonight with a gritty 88-84 victory over Oklahoma Baptist.
The Bison, who remain winless in conference play, had six players score ten or more points. They also relied on those six for 179 of a possible 200 minutes on the night.
A game that saw 16 lead changes and 53 combined turnovers resulted in an ugly victory; however, it is a victory for the Muleriders, who have a nine-win improvement from a season ago as they find themselves firmly in the thick of the things as the season winds down.
Entering the fourth quarter tied, the Mulerider bench was responsible for 20 of the Muleriders' 28 fourth quarter points.
With six lead changes in the fourth quarter alone, the Muleriders took the lead for good with 4:36 left in the contest courtesy of a Young jumper. The Muleriders then went on a 10-1 run over the next two minutes to put the game out of reach despite a late Bison comeback.
Magnolia native
Kisi Young led all scorers with a career-high 19 points. The forward went 6-7 from the field and 7-10 from the free throw line, as the Muleriders shot 43 free throws as a team.
Young added in six rebounds, all on the offensive glass, in 16 minutes off the bench; she also drew a game-high seven Bison fouls as the Sooner State team committed 28 fouls to the Muleriders' 21.
Kylie Warren also scored in double digits with 15 points on 3-5 shooting from three-point range. The sophomore went 6-8 from the charity stripe, grabbing four rebounds and recording a block and a steal as well.
Alyssa Crase and
Ariana Guinn both scored seven points, going a combined 8-10 from the free-throw line.
The Muleriders improve to 12-5 on the season and 6-5 in conference play. They host Southern Nazarene on Saturday.
