SAU Volleyball drop tight match against Rattlers; Schuster named to All-Tournament Team

Canyon, Texas – The SAU Volleyball team's time in West Texas ended on Saturday morning with a loss at the hands of St. Mary's (TX) as the Muleriders lost the first two sets by two points.
The Muleriders lost sets one and two 25-23 and 26-24 before dropping the last set 25-17 to the Rattlers.

Senior Seven Powers recorded a game-high 12 kills, also adding in two blocks. The North Little Rock native leads the team in kills with 29.

In her first collegiate start, freshman Gabby Thrower recorded six kills with a .333 attack percentage. The Jonesboro product earned the start following a debut last night against West Texas A&M that saw Thrower bury three kills in five attempts in one set against the hosts.

Morgan Gross and Lauren Smith added eight and five kills respectively; Smith, who had an attack percentage today of .333, leads the team through the opening weekend in that category, owning a .306 attack percentage through three games.

Smith also added three more blocks, bringing her team-high total to 12 on the season.

Freshman Morgan Schuster recorded 35 assists on the day, bringing her weekend total up to 89 assists. For her performance this weekend for the Muleriders, the Arlington, Texas native earned her way onto the BritKare Lady Buff Classic All-Tournament Team. In her first three collegiate games, Schuster averaged 8.9 assists per set, while also tallying four kills, one service ace, eight blocks and 22 digs.

The Muleriders return to action next weekend in Hays, Kansas as they take part in the 2019 Tiger Classic hosted by Fort Hays State.
